Hi, welcome to Fac 2.07, the Home Page of Factory Records.
Sorry we haven't done that much updating over the past couple of years.
Actually its cause were too busy with MUSIC, remember music.
So stop sounding off about how we never update or we'll take another two years.
And as we explained to earlier vistors, we're still pissed off that we can't import graphics properly from the Mac'd up bunch of people on the other side of the office.
This HTML writing is a doddle but the graphics stuff - dual platform means rail disaster down here.
Anyway now we're back, well at least today we are and we promise to try to update every couple of weeks.
Promise.
Hollow laughter.
We also have to change this home page at some point soon as Factory is too busy for the present limited metaphor.
But for now it will serve.
And for now the Mac bunch have walked off with the scanner yet again.

For ease of travel we'd like to point out that clicking on the top image of each page will bring you home.

News update for October 14th, 1996.

The Space Monkeys

The Space Monkeys bring out their second slice of vivid life on October 21st. The lead tracks are "Blowing down the Stylus"/"Dear Dhinus". It's a double A side so you aren't allowed to mention one without the other.
Alright.
The video by Ben Warburton features both tracks so include this in your conversation.
The other two tracks are "King Monkey" and "Fantasy Island" but not necessarily in that order. Some of Johhny Jay's bunch did the cut so don't blame us if the track listing is the wrong way round.

The boys are on tour. If we had a full web page for them we'd put in the dates, but let's face it, you could ring us and the Monkey House can wait till we revamp our front end.

And if you can find anyone with a cassette of "Awaiting Mr Crow" - we did 50 for promo - shoot them cause it may have got to them.

Hopper

Their wonderful first album, "English and French" was absolutely factory.
Adored by a few, including us, great reviews in ID and Loaded failed to stop the slagging by the brainless wonders of NME and MM getting in the way of this fantastic debut invading people's heads.

Hopper are in studio this week to turn some of the full on electric tracks from "E&F" into acoustic specials. The way Rachel and Paul did "Homeless" at the Pinnaccle Sales conference in August is still rolling round our insides.

Hopper's designer/artist, skateboarder Ed Templeton from Huntington Beach, missed the second leg of his UK trip after a dry sledging accident in Switzerland.
Our new web site will be entirely designed to give a space to "Fragment Fuckers", Ed's recent and highly personal fanzine.

"The Durutti Column"

Vini's back catalogue is on its way. At last.
Four of Vini Reilly's classic Factory albums return to the racks on October 27th, 1996.
And with all the usual catalogue campaign goodies - digitally remastered, extra tracks, insightful liner notes and mid-price even.

  • From 1979 "The Return Of" with extra tracks, Madeleine, Lips That Would Kiss, The Hannet flexi-disc, Sleep Will Come and Experiment in Fifth
  • From 1981 "L.C." with extra tracks, For Mimi, Belgian Friends, Self-portrait, One Christmas for your Thoughts, Danny and Enigma
  • From 1987 "The Guitar and Other Machines" with extra tracks, LFO Mod, Dream Topping, 28 Oldham Street, and live from WOMAD, Otis, ELT, Finding the Sea and Bordeaux
  • From 1989 "Vini Reilly" with extra tracks, Paradise Passage Road, Les Preger's Tune, Bhuddist Prayer, Misere, Real Drums, Pathway, Elegy and Shirt No 7

For "The Return of..." and "L.C." this will be the first time they've been available in Europe on CD.

The other 4 Vini Reilly/Durutti Column Factory classics, "Another Setting", "Without Mercy", "Domo Arigato" and "Obey The Time" will be released by Factory once/Polygram in Spring '97.

And Vini's working on new stuff in Crumpsall. Jesus, Crumpsall.

    "The Hacienda"

    Cheers, Consy.
Freak, the new Saturday night is doing a storm.
Hardware on Friday is getting harder. Stone Love takes over the world; well at least it takes over Cream, Liverpool, and Jeremy says Born Slippy, Manchester's new Monday night is fab; they say it's "Balearic for the new generation" which is bloody brave, but Jeremy is always right.

    News from Walsall

Khalique has just finished recording his album at Dep in Birmingham.
    "Roast Turkey".
No that's not the name of the album, its the sign on the studio wall which explains what a ridiculous fucking accents Brummies have. Production by Jed and Martin, the vegans out of Black Grape.
And they come from Ozzy. That's Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, as opposed to some bat-eating metallic influence. And they're fantastic.
Mixing in Parr Street Liverpool next month.

    "I see my brothers running"

    Fac 2.16

Work has begun on new product, "Starlust", a recording of Obsessions created by the obsessed themselves. Relevant web site details will be up soon.

    Julian's news.

Sam's gone to Glasgow. Factory too's legendary A&R man, Sam Gray, "the best dressed man in Manchester" (Yvette Livesey) has deserted our town for an education at Glasgow University. Yes, we had to push him. New boy is Julian Hargreaves - well the second bit is good lancashire - who is keeping his day job at Waterstones, cause in 'rock 'n roll you always keep the day job.

    More signings.

We are in conversations with Hoop La Baby, best female thing out of this town since Emily Pankhurst and winner of In The City Unsigned in Dublin.
People said it was a fix.
Bollocks. We would have liked to fix it so no-one saw them till we'd signed them.
    Stay tuned.
