HACIENDA CREDIT CARD
Early 1982
|
Description: Color Pigeon Blue, yellow and silver
Designed by Peter Saville using his original Hacienda typographic identity.
From Factory "Around 6,000 were manufactured in early 1982, at incredible cost, by
the company who manufactured Amex cards etc. This was before the Hacienda opened and when
they thought they would need membership to resolve licensing issues. By the time of
opening it was realized that this would be unnecessary and around 2,000 were embossed with
names and numbers merely for the entertainment of the early habitus. Embossed cards may
be worth more, with the right name. Come with the blue slip card holder developed to
resell the redundant cards in the Fiona's fated Factory shop in Afflecks Palace Manchester
in 1989."

FAC 51 Badges, First
Iteration
1984
|
Description: Yellow and blue enamel with silver type.
1,000 produced
Designed by Peter Saville Associates
Manufactured by Johnson's Engravers, Leeds
From Factory "This was the first Hacienda Badge to be done in the enamel, prefects
badge style. It featured the color palette and typo of Peter Saville's never changing Fac
51, Hacienda logo. The pale blue in particular, whether it be Air Force blue, or Pigeon
Blue, was a Ben Kelly obsession second only to International Orange. "

FAC 51 Badges, Later
Version
1992 |
Description: Red and black enamel with silver type.
Designed by Peter Saville Associates
1,000 produced, mostly given away.
From Factory "We're not sure where these come from. Except it was the same typo as
the original Hac badge but with different color ways. It is possible these were done when
Ben Kelly changed the famous angled color on the Hacienda steel columns for the redesign
and re-opening in 1992. Certainly the new colors did include black and red. The
typography works as well as over which is probably what Peter Saville refers to as
"problem-solving design."

The label bears the message "Merry Xmas and Good Will to All Members"
Description: Faded white printing on black plastic.
From Factory "We can't remember if this was Xmas present to the Hacienda regulars
or just a crazy idea. Certainly it involved taking a New Order piece that they'd recorded
for a local TV Xmas special the previous year and making a flexi out of it. As far as we
remember it was Beethoven's Ode to Joy, but we don't have a record player any more so we
can't be sure. "
